bike church & fall semester

So like I said, I was off to bike church yesterday and it wasn’t quite what I expected. So first, what is bike church you ask? It’s a place on uPenn’s campus that sells and fixes used bikes. So I go there, and I walk alllll around the church, and I can’t find an open entrance. So I call and I’m like, “Hey, I’m right outside and I can’t figure out how to get in…,” and the guy laughs at me and says, “Facing the church, you’re going to walk around the left, you’ll pass a playground, there will be a set of elevated stairs up to a glass door. Before you walk up the stairs, walk around the right of the stairs and there there is a bike handle. Pull the brake cable and someone will come get you.” Are you serious? This sounds like I’m on Legends of the Hidden Temple instead of getting a bike!! So I was waiting a while because they were full and then when it was finally my turn to get a bike, I couldn’t really find one my size because I’m so short! There was this really sweet Robin Hood one but it needed fixed and was also about the same as a new bike so I think I’m going to just buy a new bike. However, if anyone is interested in such a thing, look it up. The people were really nice and for someone above 5 feet tall, I’m sure it would have worked out lovely.

And for the fun part!! My class schedule for next semester!!

There it is!! This semester I’m taking two upper level geology classes, Chem II with lab, and Calculus. It’s nothing short of insane. This summer I’m taking Calc II and Physics I in the first summer session and then Physics II in the second. I’m not sure if I’m helping myself or not (financially that is, you don’t get any aid for the summer) but just to not have another semester like this one, it’s well worth it!

paleo class trips

So my world has been absolute madness for the last few weeks.  First I dropped my credit card payment, then someone identity thefted me and used my accounts (both bank and credit), the dogs ate my phone (R.I.P. Blackberry curve),  I’ve had tests in EVERY subject, house hunting, and field trips like crazy.

So my field trip first!! We went to the Pottstown area to play in and around the Newark basin.  The day we left (Friday) I went in a little early to work on some homework on a system called PHREEQ (pronounced “freak”), which stands for pH, redox, equilibrim.  Well, I started it up, and this is a screenshot of my tip of the day:

In case you can’t read it it says “This is the last tip.”  How funny is that?!??  You can also see that I’m looking for a new phone so if anyone knows where to get them cheap, send me some info please!!

So here’s a whooooooole bunch of pictures from the trip (it was for Paleontology, I guess that’s kind of important!):

Tracks by the water!

A broken tree we walked out on because we (Anthony, Sara, and I) got done with our measured section early:

The fault in our section.  See all that stirred up dirt?  That’s because I fell down it  : (

A nice layer of dolomnite in our section.  How do you think it got there?  (we say evaporites!)

idk…it just looked nice

 Yikes!!!  Is this a hint??!

Not the asbestos field but I can’t figure out how to move it.  Anyway, part of the measured section.

Here’s the asbestos field.  Note, we are not in it.  We had binoculars.

“This section is 5 Jesse’s high…” haha we had such a good trip!

Now I’m heading to bike church to become more eco friendly!!

post spring break

Spring break is not long enough.

Here’s my niece in my new sunglasses.

Here’s what my niece did to her Furby because it wouldn’t stop talking.  She’s a strange little one.

So I forgot my computer at home.  And then when I was in Harrisburg to pick up Morris, my mom called me and asked me where her car keys were.  Well, they were in my purse, on the passengers seat.  Oops.

So anyway, I got back to Philly and started classes again.  I’m not going to lie.  It’s a struggle.  Especially because my Mondays and Tuesdays are really long days.  But I had a nice surprise on Monday!!

So I get to Geochem class and this is right after pulling a 91% on my test.  So I was kind of happy to be there.  Then, G, short for Dr. Grandstaff, previously mentioned in my blog for his funny sayings, announces we’re going on a field trip instead of having actual lab.  Well, I have night class (thus my long day). So I could either miss class for the third week in a row (first because the Geochem test took 5 hours, one because it was spring break, and then for the trip) or miss the field trip.

So here’s pictures from the trip!  We went to Jersey to do some water sampling, which is what I want to do with my life.

Kevin and G (just his arm) measuring pH and eH:

Now this boat is super cool.  They would go out onto the water with it and then extract the ores from the wood that made their way into it!!  Awesome!

At Basto Village:

An artisan waterflow at the nature house:

Somewhere there was a lot of iron.

This place had an acidity of like, 3.  Not much lives there.

Mmm, that’s some nice algae   : )

We were doing this in front of a private gun club.  Thankfully no one cared.  And I got motion sickness and I still don’t feel well.  But time for a G story!!

So we were at a red light and G was like, “this is supposedly where the train runs from Philly to Atlantic City, if and when it ever does.”  As soon as he was done saying that the bars came down and the train ran through.  That’s what we like to call irony  : )

spring break

So it’s spring break time and unfortunately this spring break is not at all like my last.  Last year I went to California.  This year I’m in Sunbury.  ….!

So I’m working at BK making some money to fuel my one addiction.  Now, if you read this often you know.  If not, it’s shopping.  And I just discovered some great new places  : )

Being home is kind of crazy.   A lot of my friends that I graduated with are getting married, engaged, or have kids.  I could not imagine any of that in my life right now.  I don’t even know where I’m living next year let alone where I would keep a kid.  Or care for it more importantly!!!

Which leads to a cute nephew story!  I took my nephew for his first haircut because he was getting a pretty wicked mullet (not that it’s bad for anyone that may have one, it’s just not a good look for a 2 year old).  He was so upset.  He was just watching in the mirror, crying and has his eyebrows up so high and concerned.  Then the stylist looked at him and he turned that face into the meanest one I’ve ever seen him make. I couldn’t stop laughing at him!!

I got really good news too.  After close on Saturday some of my work friends and I went to Denny’s and my good friend that was going to go to school in the Philly area who then wasn’t, is now!!  She visited the school and they looked at her SAT’s and told her there is no way she would ever get into the college.  And then they told her because she went to Technical school instead of traditional for senior year, she wouldn’t be able to get into any college.  Kind of harsh.
I’m only in Sunbury until Sunday.  Then I’m meeting Morris in Harrisburg, doing some shopping at the Harrisburg East Mall, and heading back to Philly.  Considering how much I’m making this spring break compared to last, I think I’m having a very good break!!  : )

midterms

My life has been absolute madness in the bast week and a half.  From school, to work , to having fun, there is no time to breathe!!

So last Wednesday I went to a Temple Basketball game in the Presidents suite!  It was a great time with all of my coworkers.  I had to leave early so I don’t really know who won, but tonight Temple beat St. Joes!

My friend Stover and I.  It’s like freshman year was so long ago!

And my bff Monica.  You’ll find a link to her page on the right of this!

And then Friday some coworkes and I went to the Phantoms game.  It was a lot of fun.  We lost from the 7th shoot out.  I don’t know if that’s the proper terms.  But it was a bummer.

Here’s a few of us on our way to the subway.  My flash was on so it’s super dark.

The pee wee game!! Oh it was so cute!!

Then a few of us went back to my house to play some Rock Band!!!  It was so fun!

A few of us:

Bobby with Leonidas.  He just loved him!

And my favorite: Morris and Vinnie.  This is such a cute shot!

And then Saturday Morris, Kim and I went into the city and tried the new Maoz restaurant and it was just wonderful.  I swear this blog should be about Maoz.  Then we just walked all over and did some shopping.  It was really tiring.  And today, Sunday, I had a geochem study group from 10-5:30 and if I don’t get an A on that test, I’m going to be pretty upset.
